QUOTE

Found this posted up by a friend and yea meaningful!

Be very careful if you make a woman cry,
because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib.
Not from his feet to be walked on.
Not from his head to be superior, But from the side to be equal.
Under the arm to be protected,
and next to the heart to be loved ...

=========================================

Pop Art

Pop Art refers to the paintings, sculpture, assemblages, and collages of a small, yet influential, group of artists from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. Unlike abstract expressionism, pop art incorporated a wide range of media, imagery, and subject matter hitherto excluded from the realm of fine art. Pop artists cared little about creating unique art objects; they preferred to borrow their subject matter and techniques from the mass media, often transforming widely familiar photographs, icons, and styles into ironic visual artifacts. Such is the case in two of the most recognizable works of American pop art: Andy Warhol's Campbell Soup Can (1964), a gigantic silkscreen of the iconic red-and-white can, and Roy Lichtenstein's Whaam! (1963), one of his many paintings rendered in the style of a comic book image.

American pop art emerged from a number of converging interests both in the United States and abroad. As early as 1913, Marcel Duchamp introduced "ready made" objects into a fine-art context. Similarly Robert Rauschenberg's "combine-paintings" and Jasper John's flag paintings of the mid-1950s are frequently cited as examples of proto-pop. However, the term "pop art" originated in Britain, where it had reached print by 1957. In the strictest sense, pop art was born in a series of discussions at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts by the Independent Group, a loose coalition of artists and critics fascinated with postwar American popular culture. The 1956 "This Is Tomorrow" exhibition at the Whitechapel Art Gallery introduced many of the conventions of pop art. Its most famous work, Richard Hamilton's collage Just What Is It That Makes Today's Homes So Different, So Appealing? (1956), uses consumerist imagery from magazines, advertisements, and comic books to parody media representations of the American dream.

By the early 1960s, American pop artists were drawing upon many of the same sources as their British counterparts. Between 1960 and 1961, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Mel Ramos each produced a series of paintings based on comic book characters. James Rosenquist's early work juxtaposed billboard images in an attempt to reproduce the sensual overload characteristic of American culture. As the decade progressed, and a sense of group identity took hold, pop artists strove even further to challenge long-held beliefs within the art community. The work of such artists as Tom Wesselmann, Ed Ruscha, Claes Oldenburg, and Jim Dine introduced even greater levels of depersonalization, irony, even vulgarity, into American fine art.

Not surprisingly, older critics were often hostile toward pop art. Despite the social critique found in much pop art, it quickly found a home in many of America's premiere collections and galleries. Several pop artists willingly indulged the media's appetite for bright, attention-grabbing art. Andy Warhol's sales skyrocketed in the late-1960s as he churned out highly recognizable silk screens of celebrities and consumer products. By the decade's end, however, the movement itself was becoming obsolete. Although pop art was rapidly succeeded by other artistic trends, its emphasis on literalism, familiar imagery, and mechanical methods of production would have a tremendous influence on the art of the following three decades.

----------------------------------

Andy Warhol (August 6, 1928 — February 22, 1987) was an American artist associated with the definition of Pop Art. He was a painter, an avant-garde filmmaker, a commercial illustrator, writer and celebrity. He founded the magazine Interview.

During the 1960s, Warhol transformed himself from an advertising illustrator into one of the most famous American artists of the day. In many ways, Andy Warhol and his circle helped define the decade.

It was during the 1960s that Warhol began to make paintings of famous American products such as Campbell's Soup Cans from the Campbell Soup Company and Coca-Cola, as well as paintings of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Troy Donahue, and Elizabeth Taylor. He founded "The Factory", his studio, during these years, and gathered around himself a wide range of artists, writers, musicians and underground celebrities. He switched to silkscreen prints, which he produced serially, seeking not only to make art of mass-produced items but to mass produce the art itself. In declaring that he wanted to be "a machine", and in minimizing the role of his own creative insight in the production of his work, Warhol sparked a revolution in art - his work quickly became very controversial, and popular.

Warhol's work from this period revolves around American Pop (Popular) Culture. He painted dollar bills, celebrities, brand name products, and images from newspaper clippings - many of the latter were iconic images from headline stories of the decade (e.g. photographs of mushroom clouds, and police dogs attacking civil rights protesters). His subjects were instantly recognizable, and often had a mass appeal - this aspect interested him most, and it unifies his paintings from this period. Take, for example, Warhol's comments on the appeal of Coca-Cola:

What's great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.

This quotation both expresses his affection for popular culture, and evidences an ambiguity of perspective that cuts across nearly all of the artist's statements about his own work.

I like his thinking XD. But i dont like Coke =x

----------------------------------

Screenprinting, or serigraphy, previously known as Silkscreening is a printmaking technique that traditionally creates a sharp-edged image using a stencil and a porous fabric. A screenprint or serigraph is an image created using this technique. It is related to resist dyeing on cloth.

Campbell's Soup Cans (sometimes referred to as 32 Campbell's Soup Cans) is the title of an Andy Warhol work of art that was produced in 1962. It consists of thirty-two canvases, each measuring 20 inches in height x 16 inches in width (50.8 x 40.6 cm) and each consisting of a painting of a Campell's Soup can—one of each canned soup variety the company offered at the time. The individual paintings were produced with a semi-mechanised silkscreen process, using a non-painterly style.

STRUGGLES

This post will actually make me felt vulnerable / naked / prone to attack, BUT i believe its worth to share =)

OF UNDERSTAND

-------------------------------
understand
results from: Dictionary.com

–verb (used with object)

6. to learn or hear: I understand that you are going out of town.
7. to accept as true; believe: I understand that you are trying to be truthful, but you are wrong.

How does one understand something? Someone?

By learning. By hearing. Every single message, a simple nod of head, a smile etc leads to another step of understanding.

By accepting the thing as it is; the person as himself. By believing and trusting, understanding grows.

======================================

OF DOUBT
-------------------------------
doubt [dout]

–verb (used with object)
1. to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe.
2. to distrust.
3. Archaic. to fear; be apprehensive about.

When my old wounds closed/healed.... it left me with a sudden emptiness. The months of pains no longer exist. I question...where did the feeling go? Where did the pain go? If everything will fade in time... then where is true love? Or what is true love?

I don’t know. But someone told me she believed in true love when all these questions still rings in my head. That caught my attention. And slowly she has my attention.
Sep 06 passed by. Oct 06 flied away. Nov 06 withered slowly. Dec 06 gone in the blink of an eye. My doubts still have the upper hand of me.

“When I first met you I was afraid to like you, now that I like you I'm afraid to love you, now that I love you I'm afraid to lose you.”

Jan 07. I’m sure it’s not just a crush. But I still doubt. I fear that reveling my feeling will spoil our friendship. I fear that IF anything work out... what happen if a better one for either come along... what will happen then...

Till a friend passed away. A friend who were like a sister to me. It was like jumping into the sea. The cold water hit me. Then the 2nd waves and the 3rd washed over.... I woke up.

The things in the future... we will never know. If I will to die tmw, my deepest regret is that I have not love and care for the people I love enough.

The bible has this line: true love drive out fear =)

I guess I finally understand its meaning. Its always about GIVING!
“You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.”

When you just want to love and give, there is no fear of rejection. No doubt of the future. Cos’ love itself is simple and pure =) It is us that complicated love.

There is no better. Nothing is perfect. It’s only our perspective.
“Love is not blind -- it sees more, not less. But because it sees more, it is willing to see less.”
our flaws get exposed over times. But because it sees more, it is willing to see less. That is love. To be able to accept each other as who they are. To be willing to forgive one another for their wrong. That. Is the 'blindness' of love. =)

God asks for your heart, not your head.

Keep your head. You Use it.

You have sound reason, good judgement and clear discernment.

Make great decisions.

Think with your head, not your heart.

Feel with your heart, not with your head.

Don't let the two become confused.

A warm heart and a cool head work well together.

Don't let your heart become cool and your head become hot.

ARHHHHHHHHH

Hate been sick. everything become tasteless. sleep so much still tired. zzz

TORN BETWEEN THE WORLD

IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW

"Enchanting and unexpected' You
Cecelia Ahern

*yawn* 'Finished' my FYP and my report. Hopeful tmw im able to bring some good impression to the head prof.

And last night, finished reading "IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW". wanted to cry =x arhhhhhhhh. Partly I guess because it make me think of Jessica. I keep asking: " what the reason for putting her on earth and take her back so soon?"

Quote from the last page:
"for a while I was struggling with my experience with Elizabeth. I couldn't figure out what I had won, all I could see was that my losing her was one big black stormy cloud. But then I realised that, as every day went by and I thought about her every second and smiled, I knew that meeting her, knowing her and above all loving her, was the biggest silver lining of all."

I miss my dear little sis. I wont cry. I have promised her that I wont.

If, if only i could see her now....

WHITE RABBIT

THE RABBIT AND THE TORTOISE

Opssss or was it THE TORTOISE AND THE RABBIT ?

Remember the well known story on the race between tortoise and rabbit?

The story hasn't ended there after the tortoise won the race.

Rabbit went back home and did a post-event cause analysis of her losing, and found out that she's over-confidence, complacency and lax are the keys to the problem.

Knowing now how to win, she challenged the tortoise again. One... Two... Three!

This time, rabbit ran all the way non-stop. She won the tortoise by several miles.
But the story didn't end here as well. The tortoise did some thinking this time, and realised that he could never beat the rabbit in a race the way it was currently formatted.

'This time let's do another route,' tortoise suggested.

The rabbit agreed.

The race started. Same as before, rabbit ran all the way non-stop until she reached a broad river. The finishing line was just a few steps away on the other side of the river.

Rabbit sat there wondering what to do. In the meantime tortoise trundled along, met the rabbit, swam across the river, continued walking and won the race.

The story still hasn't ended here. :)

Rabbit and tortoise, by this time, had become friends and together they figured out the last race could have been run much better. So they started off again. This time rabbit carried tortoise till the riverbank.

There, the tortoise took over and swam across with rabbit on his back.

Then again rabbit carried tortoise until they both reached the finishing line together. They both felt a greater sense of success and satisfaction than they felt earlier.

Striving not just the excellence of what you can see now, in the limited boundary it was being defined. But striving for excellence of what you possibly can, or even what you haven't been thinking of.

nice right? =D

IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW

BY CECELIA AHERN

Like one of the main char - Ivan, I love children ~ wheeeeeeeeeee

quote from book:

'Children keep you young, though, Elizabeth."
His voice turned serious, his eyes deep and thoughtful. 'My job is to care for children, help them along and just be there for them.'
'You're a care worker?' Elizabeth asked.
Ivan thought about that, 'You could call me a care worker, professional best friend, guide...'
He held out his hands and shrugged. "Children are the ones that know exactly what's going on in the world, you know. They see more than adults, believe in more, are honest and will always, always let you know where you stand.'

Elizabeth nodded along with him. He obviously loved his job - as a father and as a care worker.

'You know, it's interesting,' he leaned forward again, 'children learn much more, far more quickly than adults. Do you know why that is?'

Elizabeth assumed there was some scientific explanation for it but shook her head.

'Because they're open-minded. Because they want to know and they want to learn. Adults, he shook his head sadly, 'think they know it all. They grow up and forget so easily and instead of opening their minds and developing it they choose what to believe and what not to believe. You can't make a choice on things like that: you either believe or you don't. That's why their learning is slower. They are more cynical, they lose faith and they only demand to know things that will help them get by day by day. They've no interest in the extras. But Elizabeth,' he said, his voice a loud whisper, eyes wide and sparkling, and Elizabeth shivered as goose pimples rose on her arms. She felt as if he was sharing the world's greatest secret with her. She moved her head closer. 'It's the EXTRAS that make life.'

'That make life what?' she whispered.

He smiled. 'That make LIFE.'

Elizabeth swallowed the lump in her throat. 'That's it?'

Ivan smiled. 'What do you mean, that's it? How much more can you get than life, how much more can you ask for than life? That's the gift. Life is everything, and you haven't lived it properly until you believe.'

'Believe in what?'

Ivan rolled his eyes and smiled. 'Oh, Elizabeth, you'll figure it out.'

well well, im still only 1/3 thru the book. But i have a pretty good idea what it is. =D what about you?

MAYBE A MIRACLE - A NOVEL

BY Brian Strause

Just finished this book. *yawn*

I shall quote the intro :

When he finds his sister, Annika, floating facedown in the family pool the night of his senior prom, Manroe Anderson becomes a reluctant hero. He saves her from drowning, but despite his efforts she slips into a coma. What follows astonishes everyone: Within days of the accident, mysterious events begin to occur around Annika. Monroe's family members react to these apparent miracles in very different ways - Mon finds God, Dad finds the bottle, and the older brother Ben finds new ways to torture Monroe. In the end, Monroe must decide what's worth believing in, what's worth fighting for, and finally, who he wants to be.

Love this chapter :

YOU THINK LIFE IS FULL OF CHOICES, but that's not the way it is. Sometimes if you want to be able to live with yourself you have to do things you don't really want to do, things you never thought you'd HAVE to do. Sometimes, it's not like you have a choice at all. So even though I took a stand, it wasn't a big deal. It's something anyone would do. Well, not Dad. Certainly not Mom. But if Ben was even THINKING about it, then YOU probably would have done something too.

I'm not so special.

It's hard to see the truth when everything is designed to make sure you don't see it, because once you do, once you see everything for what it is, there's nothing to believe in anymore. Nothing but yourself, that is. And even that isn't always particularly convincing.

I'm not sure where that leaves God. If it's true that you can't love somebody else until you love yourself, what's the point of giving your love to God? The middleman always screws everything up - even if it is God or whatever you want to call Him. It's not exactly a secret: God separates people more than He brings them together. Maybe you should give your love to yourself and to the people around you. Maybe it's that simple. Maybe we're all alone until we realize that all we have is one another. Maybe that's what God really wants.
Maybe you already know all of this and don't need to hear it from me.

alrite. since someone request for one, i shall add a tagger soon. soon. =P
